Entry: Spanish Omelet - Tortilla Espanola Friday, April 04, 2008

Spaniards love their food! In fact, the typical Spaniard probably puts away more food than any one of us in the USA. One of the most popular Spanish meal is Spanish Omelet - Tortilla Espanola. It is also called Tortilla de Patata or Potato Omelet. Bars and cafés serve it as a tapa or appetizer. Because it is easy to transport, the Spanish make bocadillos or sandwiches by placing a piece between two pieces of a baguette.

There are lots of variations of tortillas or omelets. To make tortilla you need just about a half an hour.

Ingredients:

  • 6-7 medium potatoes, peeled
  • 1 whole yellow onion
  • 5-6 large eggs
  • 2-3 cups of olive oil for pan frying
  • Salt to taste

Posible Variations

You can prepare possible variations using green pepper, chorizo or ham.

I was unfamiliar with this particular food.

I am interested in the baguette transportation.

This is also something of which I am unfamiliar.

What is a baguette?
